March 16, 2003 – Secretary’s Report

Hello OASC,

I apologize for not letting you know I would not be here this month.  I did not realize until after last month’s OASC that I would be gone today.  I will gladly type and mail this month’s Area minutes when I return on the March 22nd, if the Area requests it.

I have corrected the error in the first line of the February minutes.  I changed “1330 Wall” to read “618 Jackson.”

Further, at my home group’s business meeting we found that the Regional motions in the RCM report were incorrect in our February OASC minutes.  Since the Regional motions are critical and time sensitive, I immediately prepared and e-mail/mailed an Emergency Addition with the correct information.  The additional expense for doing this was $2.35.  I plan to note the error, in pen, on the final copy of the February minutes and attach the Emergency Addition to the back of the minutes for the archives.  If the Area prefers I handle this a different way, please let me know.

The total cost of printing and mailing for February was $5.70.  I have included the February cost sheet for the treasurer’s records.

In Loving Service,

Lori H.

PS. Don’t forget, the 3rd Sunday in April is Easter.  I’d prefer April 27th for OASC.  J

RCM-Alt Report

Dear OASC,

I am sorry that I could not attend this month’s Area Service meeting and I apologize for not being present when I’ve been nominated as RCM.  I will attend the April Regional business meeting, and at the April OASC, I will have a full report from the Region.  I am concerned about getting our Area’s voice heard at the Region in April, as well.  So, I’ve contacted Dale S. and arranged to collect all the information necessary to effectively represent us.  I will be in contact with him as soon as I return.  Because of the error in the February minutes, if your group does not have their vote ready today, you can contact me, at                                  , with your group’s vote before April’s Regional business meeting.

Literature Review Subcommittee Report

Greetings Area,

There is not a while lot too report his month.  Due to schedule conflicts the lit. Committee did not meet this month.  At this time, we are waiting on a time line for Sponsorship Text chapter two review.  I have e-mail into the Regional Chair regarding this info.  Would like to plan interim meeting around that release.  Due to my disability with web-sites, I have still been unable retrieve the new traditions workbook review.  I have requested help with this from our Regional Lit Chair and awaiting reply.  Will plan next subcommittee meeting after checking everyone’s schedule.

Unfortunately, Saturdays before Area is not working for me. I am unable to spend that much time waiting to have a meeting.  It was a good idea for a while.  Therefore, will meet with the committee officers to decide one day per month commitment.  If there are other groups outside the Joplin area interested in what lit review does, please contact me.  I would be more than happy to come to you for workshops and maybe even consider a traveling subcommittee meeting.  You can reach me at                        .

In Loving Service,

Darlene L.

Will circulate flyer when subcommittee meeting time is established.

The website is ready to be voted on by the groups.  Our helpline is not being answered.  The Joplin Answering Service and the company they have hired will be contacted tomorrow to fix this.  I was unaware until I got to Area meeting today that it was this way. (FOR YOUR INFORMATION:  The area help line was fixed and being answered by noon on Monday after March Area meeting.  Also Joplin Answering Service has hired a new company to answer our calls and I think we can safely say that the calls are being answered correctly.)  I do not think it is necessary to fire Joplin Answering Service at this time.  It would be my recommendation to keep them until the Regional Helpline is up and running and switch to the Regional Helpline.  Public Service Announcements have been faxed to one of the radio groups.  Respectfully submitted:  Pam M.

Set Free Group

Hello Ozark Area,

The Set Free Group has been struggling as far as attendance with an average of about 4-7 people.  We are still meeting our financial obligations but would welcome some support from members of other groups if you can attend.  We are still meeting at the same times and location. We do not have a donation for Area this month.

Sincerely, Ed R.

We Do Recover

Hello Area,

We Do Recover meets at 1330 Wall in Joplin, MO.  We have 8pm meetings 7 nights a week and midnight meetings on Fri and Sat.  and our group business meeting is the 1st Sunday of the month at 3:00.

We Do is celebrating our 14th birthday Mar 22nd in Galena, KS.  Tricia B. will be speaking at 7:00 and we have a life band and raffle to follow.  Raffle items are needed.

Our meeting attendance has leveled out to about 60 addicts per meeting.  We still have a lot of newcomers.  We give out between 20 and 30 white key tags each month.  However not near as many orange and green, etc.  Our birthday night is the last Fri of the month and at this time we have 6 birthdays with a combined total of 32 years.

All of our bill are paid and we have an Area donation of $8.63.

In Loving Service,

Renita G.

Survivors Group

Greetings Ozark Area,

Survivors meets Mon-Sat at noon at 618 Jackson.  Our business meetings are held after the noon meeting the Saturday before Area meets.  Yesterday four addicts attended our business meeting.  We discussed group issues first, then voted on Area issues.  One thing our members discussed had to do with our area minutes. Our members discussed the vagueness of our area minutes.  We are wondering if any other groups feel it might be beneficial for our secretary to be more specific when recording minutes.  Some things we are concerned about were that future addicts might not fully understand what took place during a meeting by reading our minutes.  And can an addict read our minutes who was not in attendance and catch the God consciousness this Area is following?

Our February dance went well.  We want to thank everyone for their support and let you know where your monetary support is going.  We profited $333.  $174 went for literature and we have a donation to Area for $160.

It’s an honor to be of Service,

Shelie V.

Never Alone Group

(Absent)

Good Evening Area,                                                     03-04-03

The Never Alone Group is located at 405 7th St. in Monett.  Our meetings are held in the basement of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tuesdays at 8:00pm.  All Tuesdays except the last of the month are closed, only the last is open, we are also non-smoking and we are handicapped accessible.  Our business meetings are the first Tuesday of each month after our regular meeting.  Our attendance is still steady between 16 to 13 addicts per meeting.  I apologize for not being there, I recently had surgery on R. shoulder and unable to drive until at least March 25th, since I cannot be there the group requested I put our votes, questions, comments, or rebuttals in the report to the Area this month.

The vote for Steve H. for RCM (YES)

Rebuttal, from discussion at Area in Feb.  RCM was not signature on account according to guidelines, so if it was omitted from guidelines it would only be present, according to past guidelines RCM was never co-signatory according to their duties we could not find otherwise, but we have no problem with Steve H. (RCM) being co-signatory on Area account.  We are unsure if (amend the guideline to insert 7.5 (g) RCM to be co-signatory on the OASC bank account would be considered house keeping measure or  would need the approval of the NA members of each group.

We would like to thank Pam M. for her continued effort with the website, and so far we continue to back her efforts.

Last but not least, AWAM Chair, this was a very sensitive issue with us.  We understand having personal problems, items out of our control, even the occasional sometimes just forgetting, we put this issue in the form of being the OASC Chair, we would at least expect some response for AWAM before now, if our Area Chairperson were to conduct themselves in this manner, they would have been replaced by now.  It is our conscience that he be removed, and that, we remember why we have people fill out a resume go back to the groups prior to any election for a position to be filled at the Area level, so that addicts as a whole decide.

Respectfully, the conscience of the Never Alone Group

Presented to you by our GSR  Danny H.

PS We would like to thank Pam M. for reading our report, since Danny could not be there, this is just one reason why Danny is trying to get one of us to be the alt. GSR.

Hello Ozark Area, I’m Cara and I am an addict

How It Works And Why now meets at 427 North Cedar in the basement.  We meet 4 times a week.  Tuesday @ 8, Friday @ 9:30, Saturday @ 6:30, and Sunday @ 8.  There was about a week that we did not have a place to meet so our meeting attendance has dropped.  We began meeting again on March 7th so we do expect attendance to pick back up.  Our attendance is averaging 4-8 addicts.  All our service positions are filled and we have addicts to chair and open meetings.  We offer a $10 donation to area.

Against All Odds

Hi Everybody,

I’m Scott and I’m a addict.  My apologies for not showing up last month – I can’t control the weather!  The Against All Odds group of Narcotics Anonymous is still recovering in Pittsburg, KS.  We still meet 3 times a week; Sunday at 6:30pm, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:00pm.  Our meetings are all Open, Non-Smoking and Handicapped accessible.  We hold our business meetings on the second Sunday of the Month, right after our Recover Meeting.  We have elected a new Treasurer, Rachel C., and are looking forward to an improved more organized financial structure.  At our last business meeting we began discussions concerning prudent reserves, rent and other monthly expenses and literature expenses.  We also touched on our annual function. We were unable to resolve all of our issues and are planning a special meeting tonight to try to finish up.  Unfortunately, since we were unable to finish discussions on our finances last week, we are unable to make a contribution to Area this month.  Again our Apologies.

In Grateful Service,

Scott Jergens
