Vice-Chair Report:  Greetings OASC:                                                                                                 6/16/07

Kenny will not be here today.

This past month I attended meetings in Joplin.  NA continues to welcome new and returning members into our fellowship.

Earlier today I facilitated the joint subcommittee meeting from 1:30pm- 3pm.  Several addicts attended this joint subcommittee meeting.  It seemed to go well.  In July the subcommittees have decided to have a joint subcommittee meeting again preferably on a Saturday before area.

I attended an H&I meeting with Robyn this past month.  I also attended a jail meeting with Pam.

If anyone would like to help with typing up June reports, I would appreciate the help.  Thank you, those of you who have been emailing your reports to me.  This helps a lot.  GSRs – PLEASE be sure I have a mailing address and a phone number for a contact person for your group whether it is you or someone else.  If any of you have email, and you have not been receiving minutes via email, please let me know your email address.  I can mail a hard copy too, but I like to get the minutes to the groups as soon as possible.

SCM members are comfortable adding a slot to each vacant SCM on the joint SCM Agenda each month if the area decides to ask us to do this.    ILS - Shelie V, OASC Vice Chair

SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:

AASCReport to Area:

AASC met with the joint subcommittee today 6/16/07 at HOLC.  The plans for the HOLP are going as scheduled.  The flights have been booked for the out of state speaker.  The rooms are reserved for the speakers and speakers have been confirmed.  Banner and merchandise will be ordered this week.  Please pre-register.  We only have 22 pre-registrations.  Please ask your group members for donations of NA raffle items for the raffle at the picnic.  Donation of $13.75 from AASC B-Day function.  ILS, Renita G.

PIHello OASC:

I am glad to have been accepted as PI Chair.  I have been given the opportunity to learn how to use the new printer-scanner to scan information to the webmaster, which everything I sent to her went well.  So if anyone has anything they need scanned to the webmaster in the way of fliers for any upcoming activities if you could get them to me, I will get them to the webmaster.  In the sharing session I would like to discuss the marking of the printer-scanner with the OASC or the NA symbol or something of this sort.  I will explain the situation as to why I feel this should be done.  ILS, Sandee A

Webmaster Report for June read by PI Chair:

The ozarkasc.com site is running well, without any known hitches! Just a reminder; if anyone has an email change, and is also a GSR of a group, or a trusted servant of area, please give Sandee those changes and I'll update the addresses for the forwarded email from the website. Also, any upcoming area events that you have flyers for or information for, pass this along to Sandee and she'll get it to me so that I can post them on the website. Archives are updated, and thank you for letting me be of service.  Debra B.

GROUP REPORTS:

But Do It:

But Do It meets at 6:30pm Wednesday at 15th &Michigan at the Oak Meadows apt build 2 downstairs.  We have 10-15 attend.  This is a closed meeting.  Our business meeting is the Wednesday before area and our birthday night is the last Wednesday of the month.  We have one this month.  We also would like to talk more about waiving clean time requirement.  We feel that this should be a group matter not just area.  Why have them?  We have an area donation of $63.  ILS, Mark J

Miracles:                                                                                                                   Saturday, June 16, 2007

Miracles Group meets at 6:30 pm at 4th & Byers in Joplin.  Our monthly business meeting is the 2nd Friday following the regularly scheduled meeting and the last Friday of the month is Speaker/Birthday night, all meetings are open.  Our meeting attendance is steady with 60 plus addicts every week.  Our 5th Annual Campout is scheduled for September 14 and 15, 2007 and thanks for getting the flier posted on the website with the link, it looks really nice this year.  At our monthly business meeting our group discussed some issues that we are seeing with the operation of the Ozark Area Service Committee and would like some open discussion about some of it at an Area level and would also like some input from other groups in the Ozark Area as well and not just their GSR opinion.  We feel that the 12 Concepts for NA Service are over looked much of the time just to fill a position within our Area.  We are having a hard time understanding why the guidelines that we approved are not being followed when it comes to clean time requirements for Ozark Area positions.  The Ozark Area is waiving clean time for people that have no Area Service experience, have never chaired a committee or even been a vice chair person.  We agree that people have to gain experience some how and we feel it is through our service structure that is set up for a reason.  Hopefully the Ozark Area as a whole wouldn’t just vote someone in to be our Treasurer without any experience but if they where willing they would have a really good chance at this point.  If clean time requirements need to be waived for a position we feel that we as a group should be involved in that decision making process.

Examples:

  1. “All elements of our service structure have the responsibility to carefully consider all view points in their decision-making processes.” Concept 9.
  2. “Effective leadership is highly valued in Narcotics Anonymous.  Leadership qualities should be carefully considered when selecting trusted servants.” Concept 10.
  3. “The final responsibility and authority for NA services rests with the NA groups.” Concept 2.

Again the Miracles Group would like for there to be some open discussion about some of this at an Area level and would also like some input from other groups in the Ozark Area as well and not just their GSR opinion.  ILS, Jeff H.

PS We will email the report to Shelie V for the minutes.

Point of Turning:  Good Afternoon Area:

Point of Turning stills meets Tues at 7pm as well as Thurs at 8pm downtown Eldorado Springs in the community building.  Both our pm mtgs as well as our new Monday @ 12 noon mtg that now has been averaging 14-16 rent is paid, literature ordered and paid and our group is still solvent with a little less than $50 or so (Figure verbal estimate between reg business mtg w/ Bill J).  We are including a donation of $20 this month.  1st Thursday of the month is a book study now to possibly provide wisdom to the 24-26 addicts who show up pm mtgs.  Have heard Monday mtg is a real blessing too!  On July 5 the group voted to attempt a cookout cover dish with burgers and dogs to continue the attraction thing for mtg from 7-9pm.  Hope to see you guys there as we hope for the success seen so far with this ever growing group of sincere addicts that are a real joy to serve and represent.  Respectfully, Danny S.

Survivors:  Greetings Ozark Area:

The Survivors Group of NA meets at 618 Jackson in Joplin at noon Monday through Saturday.  We continue to have high attendance at our meetings.  We have several vacancies for service at the group level.  ILS, Shavett

Together In Unity:  Dear OASC:

We are still meeting on north Pine St doing well.  Averaging about 8-12 people a mtg.  Sorry we do not have a donation this month.

We Do Recover:  Hello Ozark Area,

We Do Recover is doing well. We meet at 1440 wall str. 7 days a week at 8 p.m. All meetings are smoking except the 2nd and last Fridays of the month due to speaker and birthday meetings. All meetings are open. We are trying to set up a "children's business meeting" to deal with problems associated with the room in the back of our facility. This will be facilitated by an adult, but the children will come up with solutions. We were short this last month with our electric bill, therefore we will have to forgo our $25.00 donation that was due last month, plus we have no donation this month. We Do Recover is planning to have a cook out at Landreth Park on July 7th, 2007 starting at 12 p.m. Speaker is at 4 p.m. Donations welcome.  In loving service, Suzanne S.

We Will Recover By God:  Hello Ozark Area:

We Will Recover-By God continues to meet every Friday at 7pm at 121 N Washington Neosho MO at the old school house at the Historical Society Museum.  Our attendance is still good.  We average 12-16 people.  Attendance is expected to go back up as we have some gone into treatment.  Our noon mtg will start Monday June 25, 2007.  Right now we will start at the library.  This will not be permanent.  We are looking into renting a building to hold both mtgs.  We brought up “service work” for a topic.  Some resented the topic.  Whoops!  Can’t please everyone!  The literature rack is in the “probation & parole” building and it looks great!  Thanks, Sandee!  Sorry, I forgot to get a donation.

In Loving Service, Michael B

Sharing Session

·        PI chair explains the need for OASC to put their name and contact information on the printer-scanner in order to see that we are being responsible with what we have purchased.  OASC members agree that it would be a good idea to mark everything we purchase such as a scanner, etc.  A motion to be taken back to groups will be made in new business.

·        GSRs were asked to discuss with their group members the idea of moving the annual OASC Birthday function to the month before or the month after the area’s actual birthday in May and bring ideas to the subcommittee meeting or to area next month.  This function profited less than $14 this year & typically does not profit much.

·        GSRs were asked to discuss with their group members what to do when a subcommittee is vacant and bring written suggestions (at least one) from their group to area next month.

-         OASC guidelines state the OASC VC acts as facilitator of any joint subcommittee meeting.  The guidelines also state the OASC VC is a member of any active subcommittee.  The guidelines do not state the OASC VC acts as Chair for any/all vacant subcommittee chair positions.

-         Guide to Local Service was quoted, as saying any subcommittee not supported by the area is not a subcommittee.  Should vacant subcommittees be dropped then?

-         OASC members discussed the fact that when SCM Chairs who are voted on at area step down currently SCM guidelines state the SCM VC steps into that position although the area as a whole has not voted that addict into that position.

-         A statement was made that OASC guidelines state nominations for SCM Chairs must originate from that SCM.  What if SCM is vacant or no member of that SCM attends area to submit a nomination?

·        Both Miracles and But Do It GSRs brought concerns from their groups regarding the area’s decision to waive clean time requirements last month for the H&I nomination.

-         A motion was made in new business.

-         The following comments were made during discussion:

1.      The motion to waive clean time requirements was out of order.

2.      That motion was not out of order OASC Guideline 6.3 sates “unless waived by 2/3 vote of the OASC…” Then the clean time requirements are listed.

3.      Why does the area even have clean time requirements listed in the guidelines if they are not going to be followed?

4.      At any time GSRs can say this is too important for me to vote on; I want to take this back to my group.  And it will be taken back to groups.

5.      An Alt. GSR last month did not know that could be done.

6.      Groups have the responsibility of properly preparing their group representative.

7.      Groups can instruct their GSRs to ask the area to table any motion to groups for discussion.

8.      It should go back to groups period whenever clean time requirements are asked to be waived.

9.      If it is to always go back to groups, then if an addict with even one day shy of the clean time requirements is nominated for a position, groups will not see that resume until after the vote to waive clean time requirements comes back to area.  This would delay a vote at least two months.

10.  After a nomination is made and if clean time requirements are waived, groups can still vote no after reviewing the resume.  This is in accordance to our concepts.

11.  This is an example of why people should not be pushed into service positions.

12.  The addict nominated last month was not pushed; he volunteered out of kindness after the H&I VC resigned and no other addict was willing to step up for the position.

13.  Addicts who have clean time requirements should step up if they do not want others who are interested to fill the position.

14.  We could decide to ask for a unanimous vote when asking to waive clean time requirements

Old Business

·        H&I Chair nominations were left open a new nomination will be made in new business.

·        M05190703:  To amend OASC Guidelines as follows:  Add 7.1m) It is the responsibility of the OASC Chair to collect any and all OASC property from any area trusted servants at the end of each service commitment when no successor immediately assumes that position.    Motion passes

·        M05190704:  To amend OASC Guidelines as follows:  Add 8.5 Chairs:  Subcommittee Chairs will turn over any and all OASC property to the OASC Chair at the end of a service commitment in the event no successor immediately assumes that position.              Motion passes

New Business

·        OASC service positions currently open for nominations include:  Secretary, RCM, RCM Alt, Literature Review Chair & Outreach Chair.  No nomination submitted at this time.  H&I Chair is also open.  We have 2 nominations at this time for H&I Chair.

·        H&I Chair position:

  1. This month Steve S. was nominated & seconded.

-         Steve was asked why he stepped down as H&I Chair and now wants to serve again as H&I Chair.  Steve stated that it was suggested to him that he would have to step down before someone else will step up.  So he did.  Steve’s resume follows…

Steve S.  RESUME FOR H&I NOMINATION

Hello Ozark Area:  I am an addict named Steve who is looking to humbly serve the Ozark Area in the open H&I Chair position.  I have held the position of activities chair for my group for 1yr and completed this commitment.  I have also chaired meetings at my group level.  For the last year I have served as the H&I chair and have completed this commitment.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my service and would be glad to serve this position for one more year.  In Loving Service, Steve S

  1. Last month Don G. was nominated & seconded.

-         M05190701:  to waive clean time requirements was passed by the OASC members.

-         Renite read the text messages she and Don exchanged this afternoon explaining why he did not attend the joint SCM mtg and why he is not present today at OASC mtg.  Don thought these mtgs were scheduled for tomorrow.  When Renita informed him SCM mtg had already begun, Don told her he would be there asap.  Don sent another text explaining his water (something) in his truck had busted and he was stranded.  Don is still interested in serving as H&I Chair, and he did serve as interim H&I Chair last month to help ensure OASC H&I meetings went on as scheduled.

-         Don’s resume follows…

Don G.  RESUME FOR H&I NOMINATION

Hello:  My name is Don G.  12/25/05 is my clean date.  I am alternate GSR for the group But Do It, HOLP registration chair, & liaison for Ozark Center C-Star.  To me the most important service is carrying the NA message to addicts who are unable to make it to meetings.  I own my own business, which ensures my ability to oversee, maintain and delegate responsibilities needed to be the H&I chair.  I ask for your support and trust in me.  I also thank God for NA and the chance to give back what has been freely given to me.  In Loving Service, Don G.

GSRs please discuss both resumes with your groups and bring your vote to area next month.

-         Last month Don was voted to serve as H&I Interim and he did so.

-         This month Steve was voted to serve as H&I Interim until next OASC.

-         OASC VC agreed to inform Don that Steve was asked to serve this month as H&I Interim.

·        M06160701:  This area will no longer pass the basket at area meetings.  Motion passes.

·        M06160702:  To mark scanner & all OASC properties with ID marks & PO Box.

Motion passes.

·        M06160703:  To amend OASC Guideline 6.3 and to delete “unless waived by 2/3 vote of the OASC” add 6.3f to read “Any waivers of clean time must be taken back to groups.”  Seconded…  (Groups please bring votes to area in July.)  (Please review discussion in Sharing Session concerning this motions intent.)
