Hello Ozark Area,
I’m glad to be here. I want to say how grateful I am for all the cooperation you all here express during recent meetings. I’ve been hearing good things about our Area meetings lately, and I love that. People haven’t been dreading monthly service work so much. I thank you all for your work.
This past month my focus has been on addicts suffering with terminal illness. I’m interested in what I can do to help share the message of recovery while they’re suffering. I’m realizing that although I can’t relate totally, I can relate somewhat.

Hello Ozark Area,
I would like to apologize to the Area for missing last month’s Area, but my daughter was here for a short time and I chose to spend time with her. I attended all subcommittees except PI and I would like to say they’re doing a great job. I would like to thank Literature Review; I gained some spiritual insight out of their subcommittee meeting.

Hello OASC,
I am having a great time! I never thought a service position could be so fun and easy. You guys are great! Thanks!
I made a correction to the July OASC Minutes after they were mailed. I removed the additional date of June 23, 2002 from the first line of the report.
Just in case you were wondering, I am printing the reports at home. Evidently, this is less expensive than you’re used to. Since I operate a home business, I have accurate figures for how much it costs me to print a page and am only asking OASC to cover my costs. I will include an itemized bill each month. The total for printing and necessary mailing of OASC Minutes in June is $10.50, and the total for the same in July is $8.72.
I have used all the mailing envelopes that were provided when my term began and will need to purchase more. I want to purchase a large quantity of envelopes for mailing minutes and charge OASC for them as I use them. I will provide a receipt and a statement that indicates the cost of each envelope and will itemize how many I have used for OASC minutes on the statement I submit for printing costs each month. This way I don’t have to worry about keeping track of the ones I use for myself. I need to know in which records the original receipt belongs, because the entire cost will not be charged to OASC.
In June, I had individual addicts request that I mail them minutes and up to now I have suggested that they contact their GSR for a copy, but am unsure if this is the appropriate action. I will gladly e-mail minutes, but printing and mailing additional copies costs more money. In June our trusted servants needed 21 copies and this month our trusted servants needed 23 copies. I printed 25 copies for both months and we used them all; I did not need to print or mail any additional copies. Some input regarding this would be helpful.
My parents are here visiting us from Virginia and this may affect the timeliness of the August minutes. I should still have them ready by the end of the week.
In Loving Service,
Lori H.
Discussion: Individual group members should obtain copies of the Area Minutes from their GSR. Secretary need only itemize the cost of the envelopes on her statement.

There is nothing to report because I don’t have the Regional minutes – and there are Regional Resumes for votes that need to go back to the groups.
The secretary agreed to wait on the distribution of the minutes, so that the Regional resumes could be distributed with them.

Nothing to Report
Hello Ozark Area,
Things with AWAM are going well. We have two functions scheduled between now and the end of my term as AWAM chair.
The first will be Saturday, September 28th at Chick H.’s house. We are calling it Serenity In September, the Ozark Area’s Celebration Of Recovery.
We will start things off at 3:00 with volleyball, horseshoes, food, fun and fellowship. At 7:30 we will be taking a hayride to the Spook Light, and then it’s back to Chick’s house for a campfire meeting. Our Area has worked very hard this year and we all deserve to celebrate it, so please bring your lawn chairs, raffle items and a covered dish; and let’s all have a great time.
The second function will be Saturday, November 11th in Galena, KS. That’s going to be the Gratitude Year Round Chili Cook off. Fliers and more information on this will be out at the next A.S.C. Thank you.
In Loving Service,
Bridgit B.

Hello Ozark Area.
This area is holding steady in H & I this month. We continue to hold 10 meetings in 4 facilities. We held our sub-committee meeting yesterday with 8 addicts in attendance.
We still need support from women in the Lafayette House. Lafayette House has requested we try and chair the other 2 Thursday’s of the month that we had to drop due to lack of women support for chair positions. I would appreciate you bringing this situation up in your group business meetings.
I have checked into the H & I budget and found we have a budget of $1200.00 per year. I have gone ahead and made out a literature order for $905.50. This literature order will stock all our treatment centers and supply literature for the jail meetings for the rest of the year.
Thank You.
In Loving Service

Discussion: Clean time Requirement for women to chair meetings at Lafayette House is one year. H&I Fiscal year is Nov through Nov.

Hello Ozark Area,
I have been thinking about what to say in this report since my last report. First of all I want to thank the Ozark Area for giving me the opportunity to be of service in Narcotics Anonymous. Over the last year through this service commitment I have had to learn the difference between “service oriented recovery” and “recovery oriented service”. How can a service junkie like myself ever pay that back? I guess by staying in service and doing the next right thing for the next right reason. Next I want to thank everyone that helped put the picnic on, I would do service with any of you anytime anywhere. I had the chance to set back and watch everything just fall into place and you people and a Loving Higher power are what made everything happen the way that it did. Once again thank you for allowing me to be apart of that process, it was one of the most beautiful things I have seen in doing service. Everything about the picnic was a success in my eyes, from the coffee, workshops, speakers, dances, campfire meetings, early bird meetings, food and lets not forget Craig and Patrick dancing while they served up the food it was great you had to be there to see it! On Sunday morning I was presented with a mirror that had the Picnic artwork on it, I got up to the microphone and said “N.A. ROCKS” and what I really wanted to do was cry. At that point and time I was over ran by emotions and I was stuffing them. I have heard over and over that I thought the Picnic was all about me. At times it hurt my feelings and at times I felt like I deserved it because I thought that it was. Please don’t take this wrong because these are my feelings so don’t get them confused with yours. When I was given the mirror I was more worried about what everyone around me thought about me getting it instead of focusing on the beauty that my best friend in the world had just gave to me. Another lesson learned, so thank you again. The best we can tell be had about 337 people that had registered. Saturday night during the clean time count down where we had only 275 people signed in, we had 1255 year 6 months and 28 days clean. We gave out 10 Basic Text and over the weekend we issued 38 newcomer registration packages.
Ok now its time for the numbers, after the picnic was said and done we had 5 cans of coffee left, 15- 16oz creamers, about a case and ½ of foam coffee cups, 4 cans of baked beans and a couple of rows of raffle tickets, great start up stuff for our A.W.A.M. committee. As far as merchandise goes we have 3-large tanks, 2-XL tanks, 2-small t-shirts, 1-XXXL t-shirt and 36 coffee mugs. During the weekend we took in $7122.83, we started up with $400.00 worth of change on Friday for a total of $7522.83. We paid out $1671.18, so our profit from the weekend was $5851.65. I have an outlined report of this and it will be attached to my report for the minutes. Out of the $5851.65 we had to pay for the coffee mugs so that brought the bank balance down to $5989.13 after leaving $1000.00 in the account for next years picnic I would like to on behalf of the 23rd Annual High On Life Picnic sub committee present the Ozark Area Service Committee and the groups you serve with a check for $4789.13. I brought the cash box, register, all files and receipts, and all the left over merchandise. If the area would like to do something else with the coffee and stuff rather than give it to A.W.A.M let me know and I will get it to where you want it. Once again thank you all for allowing me to be of service.
In Loving Service,
Grateful Dave

Greetings Area!
I am so excited to report there were 6 addicts in attendance at the first Literature subcommittee meeting. I am getting a great response on the surveys. I plan on attending all the area’s business mtgs to get more surveys filled out. Our P.I. Chair had graciously offered to give me the info on dates and time.
We discussed an outline for the subject writing on Illness in Recovery. A very good point that was brought to the table is: you don’t have to suffer from a chronic illness or mental illness in order to write about it. Because we are all affected in some way by this.
There will be another subcommittee meeting Sept. 8 @ 1:00pm. We are discussing a workshop for the Nov. 9th Chili Cook Off

Public Information Subcommittee report to Ozark Area: August 18, 2002 Your PI Subcommittee held a practice Phoneline Workshop the week before the High on Life Picnic and a complete Phoneline Workshop at the Picnic. As a result, five new phoneline volunteers were trained. At the picnic three other areas in Show-Me Region attended the workshop. Both Renita and Trisha B. presented part of the workshop. We have received no requests for presentations follow-up phone calls will be made this month. Letters will be sent to organizations in the Pittsburg area this week. For your information: Free starter packets for new NA groups should be requested at fsteam@na.org this stands for fellowship team, I think. The next PI meeting will be next Sunday at 1pm here at 1330 Wall. David B. generously printed 500 NA flyers for Ozark Area. We will be planning a flyer day for Joplin. This is when we go over a few rules, pair up, and attempt to cover the town with flyers with our helpline number on them. We'll be dividing up by sections of town and different types of businesses. So if you do business with or know most of the pawnshop owners in Joplin, please come help us out. There will be food involved, but only after the flyers have been put up. The flyer for the Flyer day will read, "Pizza, Puddin', and PI" if that gives you any idea. Please come and sit in on our meeting next Sunday. Summertime distractions have left our attendance low. We're not getting any helpline calls so we really need to get our number out in the community and visible. I am placing large literature order. $718.10. We are ordering 23 Basic Texts and It Works How and Whys to place in public libraries in Pittsburg, Columbus, Neosho, Nevada, Sarcoxie, Seneca, Monett, Webb City, Lamar, and Carthage. And to place in high school libraries in Monett, Joplin, Neosho, Nevada, Columbus, Pittsburg, Diamond, Cherokee, Carthage, Anderson, and Seneca. Another literature rack has been requested for the courts building in Columbus and we are stocking up our pamphlet supply. We need a new Guide to Phonelines. When we get the books in we'll be going to the high schools. We will need current schedules so please update the schedule I'm sending around. I sent for a stamp to put our helpline# on all our PI literature that cost $16.70 and some schedules were copied at OfficeMax and that was $9.48, so I am asking for reimbursement of $26.18 In Loving Service, Pam M

Old Business:
None
Dale S. FYI – the Southwest Missouri Bank has a community center at 7th and Duquesne, which is free to use, we can donate money to them to use charitably. There is a kitchen and seating for approx. 45 people and we can bring more chairs if we choose to. The facility is about the size of the Senior Citizens Center in Galena, KS.
New Business:
Discussion regarding carrying meetings to addicts in hospitals and how that works.
Bridgit B. – Are there any objections to AWAM ‘s Serenity in September being a free function. There were no objections.
Moved- 2nded- passed for AWAM to have the extra food from the HOLP.
Dave B. – Since there is no new HOLP Chair where do the HOLP records and equipment go?
It was determined that it is the Vice-chair’s responsibility to maintain the records of committees that do not have a chairperson.
Can AWAM use some of the leftover merchandise for raffle?
Yes. The merchandise belongs to Area and AWAM is an Area subcommittee.
Pam – PI requests to be over budget and stay there until October, the old budget was based on the fact that there was no standing subcommittee and now the committee needs more funds. PI spent about $400 up to now and needs to spend about $1100 total, through the end of the term.
Moved-2nded-passed to give PI the money detailed in this month’s PI report.
