10 MINUTE RECESS
Subcommittee Reports:
AWAM – See above report under Vice-Chair.
Hospitals and Institutions – Ozark Area H&I Subcommittee Report, November 22, 2003. Greetings Ozark Area.
H&I is strong and thriving, carrying the message. Ozark Area H&I carries “the message” into 5 facilities, male and female – 16 to 18
commitments monthly.
Discussion in reference to attendance at treatment facilities brought forth a suggestion to change section E of Ozark Area H&I
Subcommittee guidelines to read: All members must have 3 months (90 days) clean, and have the H&I panel leader/coordinator’s
approval to attend any H&I presentation. All members must have no less than 6 months (180 days) clean and H&I panel leader/coordinator’s approval to share at any H&I presentation, and be cleared by the facility where necessary.
Chair took to regionals the question of sexual preference influence on meeting/presentations on same sex treatment centers.
Discussed and got feedback at regionals. Panel members are to carry a very clear and consistent NA message. We identify as addicts, nothing more and nothing less. We do not speak as individuals, but rather as members of the H&I subcommittee, with strict adherence to the H&I Handbook and the Ozark Area H&I Guidelines, and the literature of the first step. We place principles before personalities. If there are any questions or a need for clarification, please refer to the letter from Freddie Aquino, NAWS Staff Fellowship Services.
Workshop at the chili cook-off went excellent, 28 bodies. Great talk from Craig and Danielle B., awesome. Three individuals from Springfield came, thanks.
Carried the first H&I meeting into McDonald County. This is a work in progress; the chair is in the process of finishing a written agreement with that facility.
Sales of T-shirts discussed and the tradition violation and the copyright violation in reference to the NA intellectual property available from the WSO. The subcommittee has decided no further orders will be made. Remaining T-shirts will be sold at cost.
Ozark Area H&I Subcommittee to return $91.80 to Region for money acquired for literature when no funds were available at Ozark Area.
Chair tasks: that every chairperson, liaison, and active member has a portable calendar to map upcoming commitments and events.
H&I Subcommittee is asking for a 20% increase in budget. The handbook states: “When the facility themselves are unable to provide approved literature to their residents, H&I should do so.”
Communication is critical. We must become more effective.
Next subcommittee meeting: Saturday at 4:30 prior to the next OASC on Sunday.
Chairperson’s note: The chair knows from experience that ignorance is not an excuse or defense, but because of our position on the evolutionary food chain, we are capable of learning from our mistakes.
“Character cannot be developed in ease or quiet. Only through experience of trial and (error) can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” – Helen Keller. Thank you for this opportunity to serve us. Alan F.
Literature Review – Greetings Area, There were two subcommittee meetings this last period. At the first one there was one addict
present. We discussed budgets and an outline for workshops on the approval draft. At the second meeting, someone other than
myself changed the time of the meeting, without notifying myself, (everyone else was notified) regardless of what the flyer read. So, of
course, nothing was completed at that time on the budget or the outline. However it was reported to me that the first two chapters were
read in the approval draft by subcommittee members and it was well received. I purchased five copies of the approval draft, the cost
was $30.00, no receipt was sent with the books by the RSO, I can probably produce a canceled check, but I would appreciate being
reimbursed this week. The newsletter is doing outstanding; I applaud all who have submitted items for publishing. Keep them coming
the next issue will come out in January. I have talked with the people involved in that subcommittee; we feel we have enough material
to start publishing a monthly issue. What do ya think??? I did do some research on the budget and have one to submit, I discussed
this with the nominee for chair, Eddie, and have one ready for submission. It is itemized. There is never a dull moment in service
work, I have loved serving the area as literature chair and thank the area for their confidence in me. I am confident that Eddie will do a
great job. I hope he is voted in. He will learn A LOT. I plan to stay engaged with the newsletter. ILS, Darlene L., one grateful
recovering addict. PS – request member birthdates from GSRs, for the newsletter.
Public Information – Vacant, Craig B. announced he had some copies of NA Way if any of the groups wanted them.
HOLP – Hello Ozark Area, HOLP 2004 met 11-22-03, at 2:30, at We Do Recover. We have long sleeve T’s and hooded sweatshirts for sale. We discussed entertainment and will wait on negotiations. We have chosen Doug B. as the Friday night speaker. If you have any suggestions, or tapes of circuit speakers or local speakers, please contact Linda Queen. Treasurer’s report shows we are in good shape and pre-registrations are starting to come in. HOLP Subcommittee is asking to continue the $500.00 budget agreed upon two months ago. ILS, Linda Q.
