Hello OASC,
All is well, I’m sorry that the minutes weren’t completed as quickly as you are used to. All is well.
The expenses for November were as follows: This month I’d like to be reimbursed for 10 - $.37 stamps ($3.70). The cost for printing & envelopes was $3.68 for a total of $7.38. The cost for the mailing envelopes will decrease next month from just under a dime ($.098) to just under a nickel ($.043) each, since I bought a box of 150 this month.

Secretary reported that the RCM-Alt had nothing to report and was attending Self-Improvement weekend and was uncomfortable about having to miss Area.
Hello Ozark Area,
My name is Rob, and I am an addict. I am also the AWAM Chair. We had our subcommittee meeting yesterday. The subcommittee had decided to fulfill the area’s task of having a New Year’s Eve dance. We are going to have the dance at Galena Senior Citizens Center in Galena, KS. The doors are going to open at 5:00pm, speaker at 7:00pm and dance and raffle following. Steve G. from Joplin is going to speak.
The subcommittee is asking the groups to donate as many party supplies as possible. That includes food, pop and decorations.
The only other thing that I need to report is that the subcommittee has decided to amend their guidelines by removing the yearly header of our current guidelines, and making them our on-going guidelines.
I.L.S., Rob G.
P.S. Also, I need to ask the area for our money from our budget, $200.00.
Note: The Function is on December 31st, not on Saturday.

I apologize to the area for not being able to attend but Russ W. was willing to step up and be our H & I representative and I appreciate it Russ.
We had our H & I subcommittee meeting on December 14, 2002 and we had a good attendance in support.
In so far as H & I presentations meetings are going strong. We sill have 4 meetings (2nd & 4th Saturday of each month) taken into Jasper County Jail, 2 meetings (1st and 3rd Thursday of each month) taken into Lafayette House and 4 to 5 meetings (Sundays @ 6:30pm) taken to Ozark Treatment Center.
Ray B. was chairing the 4th Sunday at Ozark Treatment Center, but moved to Kansas and asked if someone could take this responsibility and Russ W. stepped up to take over chair position.
Thank you Russ for stepping up and thank you Ray for your time served.
Also, H & I would like to express appreciation to We Do Recover for letting our subcommittee have our meetings at their home group meeting hall.
Regionals is next month and I will be attending and bring back information to the area.
Thank you, In Loving Service, Kenny C., Ozark Area H & I Chair

Report to Ozark Area from Public Information Subcommittee, December, 2002
P.I. subcommittee meeting was held on November 30th at 14th and Wall in Joplin. There were 14 N.A. members in attendance. The subcommittee was updated on how the Southern Zonal Forum went. We went over all the things P.I. has done in Ozark Area since becoming an active subcommittee again.
Subcommittee members were asked what tasks they would like to see worked on next. They decided on Public Service Announcements for radio and possibly TV, as one of the tasks. People assigned to this are Russ W., Shelley, V., and David D. The other project the subcommittee decided on was formal P.I. Subcommittee presentation at a specific place for the professional community. We would send out invitations to community members and professionals. Committee members are to bring 15 names and addresses to the next P.I. meeting. The People assigned to this task are Kevin F., Tricia B., and Craig. Meeting schedules have been updated. The next subcommittee meeting will be on December 29th 2:00pm at 14th and Wall.

High on Life Picnic Committee Meeting Report
Has a good time, got a lot done. Our theme is “The Ties That Bind Us Together” with the design of a neckties and recovery words such as meetings, steps, sponsorship, the phone, etc. printed on the tie. We’ll work out the color scheme at next meeting.
Areas of responsibility were delegated, Russ is our Vice-Chair, Lori will do pre-registration and registration, Jackie to act as Treasurer/Cashier, and Linda or Merchandising, Hug Patrol will be shared by Renita and Jaime, Hospitality duties to be shared by Sandee, Don and Pam, and Mark and Bruce are in charge of Entertainment.
I have stressed the concept that as long as we focus our attention towards feeding, lodging and entertaining the 400+ addicts that show up, all will be well. We are going to work on setting up a hospitality station for anyone who may be hungry at the picnic – we want all newcomers to feel secure that their needs will be met if, on faith, they just “jump in the truck” and come to the picnic.
We decided to have regular meetings on the last Sunday of the month at 3pm at WDR following the P.I. Subcommittee meeting.
ILS, Doug B.

Survivors meets Mon-Sat. at noon our meetings are full and bills are paid. Among other topics at our business meeting yesterday, our group members discussed strategies to keep book studies focused in the books. We came up with some suggestions, so when you visit Survivors on Wednesdays and Fridays be prepared for some changes and please respect our new format. Survivors has a donation of $65 for Area this month.
Grateful to Serve, Shelie V. 2930 W. Junge, Joplin, MO 64801, 626-0997
We are making plans for February Valentine Dance in the middle of the month.
Hello Area,
We Do Recover meets at 1330 Wall in Joplin, MO. Our meeting times are Monday thru Sunday at 8PM and 12 midnight on Fri. and Sat. Our meeting attendance is steady at 40 to 50 addicts per meeting. Our meeting consists mainly of newcomers, addicts in treatment and addicts from recovery houses.
At our business meeting we had a lengthy discussion about the decision of the Area to vote in a Trusted Servant without a resume being taken back to the groups for review and a vote. The discussion we had pertained to the election of the AWAM chair. If we had been given a chance to vote we probably would have voted Rob in. However, We Do Recover Group, as a whole, is very disappointed in their ASC for not allowing them, the individual addicts, to have a voice in the election of a Trusted Servant.
The ASC developed guidelines and sent them to the groups for approval, so this ASC is trusted to go by the guidelines it formulated and the groups approved.
According to 6.1(2) on page 3 of the Ozark Area Service Committee Guidelines, nominations may be closed and candidates voted on at the same meeting provided the groups have had at least one monthly ASC cycle to view a resume and discuss the candidates qualifications. Also our 2nd Tradition states, Our leaders are but trusted servants, they do not govern.
There was not a pressing urgency to vote in the AWAM chair who could have acted as chair and done exactly what has been done with getting the New Year’s function together until the groups had a chance to vote.
In the future, we as Trusted Servants should stick to guidelines, the traditions and the concepts.
We have an Area donation of $18.39.
In Loving Service, Renita G.
I’m new, thanks for your patience.

I’ve been the “garbage man for the picnic for the last few years, and have coordinated the setting up and daily maintenance of the picnic site.
Have been active on the HOLP subcommittee by attending all meetings for the past two years.
I am stepping up for this position so that we can begin to implement the steps necessary to put on next year’s picnic.
Addition to Resume: (December 15, 2002)
Issues brought to discussion included:
a) lack of clean time
b) will I get pissed off and quit?
I have said repeatedly that this is not “Dougnic”, but for the 400 people that come to the picnic. I will have the required clean time in February – thus the clean time requirement was waived without undue controversy.
My commitment to the picnic is easily demonstrated by my willingness to remain as designated interim chair during this difficult nomination process, rather than saying my election is more important than leading this well attended and heavily committed HOLP subcommittee.
Looking forward to serving the ASC. ILS, Doug B.
