April 27, 2003 – Secretary’s Report

Hello OASC,

I apologize for the tardiness of the minutes this month. The night we returned my son went into the hospital (he’s fine now) and I wasn’t aware the notes were waiting for me to prepare them.

I hope that the GSRs had the information necessary for their group votes.

The cost for printing and mailing the minutes for March was $3.41.

Hello OASC,                                                                                       April 27, 2003

I attended the Regional Business Meeting April 12th & 13th.  I missed the Saturday morning part of the business meeting due to a sinus infection, but did make the Saturday afternoon and Sunday portions.  Pam was kind enough to turn in a report Saturday morning for our Area.

Open Forum consisted of:

Discussed how can Areas better support struggling groups or groups far removed from Area geographically. Suggestions included: To put the meetings on the list and pass out flyers for the groups, Outreach could visit, hosting Area Service in different locations and try to include them.

What is SMRCNA BOD responsibility to Region?  The Board said they are answerable to Region unless it violates legal terms of incorporation, because SMRCNA is incorporated and Region is not.

MO-KAN & Show Me Freedom overlap. Why?  Where is the unity?  After much discussion, it was decided, why not?

How do Areas handle sending subcommittee chairs to Region?  Some Areas pay for a hotel room, mileage and food, others do not.  It’s up to the Area what they pay for.

Selling NA merchandise on E-Bay?  Decided it violates our tradition of self-support.

Circle of Sisters Convention?  If our Region agrees to host it, it will be in 2006 in February or March.  There will be more on this later in my report.

Women’s Retreats?  Much discussion, many opinions, no clear answers.

Writing Steps for Recovery will be putting on a five to ten minute skit before the speaker on Saturday night at the next RSC.

Outreach asked for suggestions to get more addicts to attend other meetings and build unity.  One suggestion was to have Flag Wars.  Each group makes their own flag or banner other groups can capture it by having a certain number of addicts attend that groups meeting.  To get it back that group must have the same number of addicts attend the meeting where the flag went.

Subcommittee Reports:

CampVention: They now have a set of guidelines.  If you want to look through them see me.

Literature Review:  Twelve Tradition guidelines at WSO website.  www.na.org or search Lone Star Region – na.org .

PI:  Offered learning days at different Areas that are interested.  Contact bigjim@yahoo.com

SMRCNA BOD:  Need two BOD members and host chair.

WSR:  Pizza Party at 1:00, July 19th at RSC.  In need of “Step Guides”, addicts who are willing to guide the step writers through the steps.

Old Business:

            RSC Treasury Audit was tabled.

RSC incorporation: they’re checking with lawyers about the legality of it all and they have an ad hoc committee looking at revision of the guidelines.

New Business:

H & I

Kenny C.

Hello Ozark Area,

H& I is still doing well, we are still having 18 meetings.

4 at Ozark Center

4 at Lafayette House

4 at Jasper County Jail

4 at Newton County Jail

2 at House Of Hope

I didn’t attend but, They held our subcommittee meeting yesterday.  Discussion was on having more than 6 mo. Clean time for sharing at the presentations, and discussion on use of profanity needs to be in do’s and don’ts

I was elected to Vice-Chair at Regional and nominated for nest year Regional Chair.

Thanks,

Kenny C.

Discussion: Profanity – New copy of panel guidelines with excessive profanity warning produced.   Can anyone come to Lafayette House to show support, or is it for H&I panel members only? Yes, but sharing is limited to panel members.  Get visitors badge first.  Questions about Lafayette House’s awareness that we are having H&I meetings.  Our H&I experiencing fallout of irresponsibility of others fellowships, who are not following through with their commitments.

Literature Review

Darlene L.

Greetings,

I was unable to attend Regionals – my ride had to work.  Dale spoke to Larry C. – Regional Lit. Chair – who said he had just been too busy to get back with me.  I continue to try to reach him, so far my efforts have failed.  I talked in length with the V. Chair , who agreed, this is a project oriented committee.  Without the necessary information from the Regional Chair, we are unable to move forward.  I am open to suggestions from the area.  Are there any projects or ideas the area would like us to take on??

I will continue to try Larry, and if there is a subcommittee mtg. Scheduled I will be overjoyed to make flyers and put them out.

In Loving Service,  Darlene L.

PS – I still can-not get my minutes formatted.  Please give me a hard copy – leave @ HOLC or mail.

Public Information Subcommittee report to Area

A Public Information presentation was given to all the 9th Grade Health classes at Carthage, MO Junior High on Friday, March 28, 2003.  Two panels of two people, a man and a woman in each, presented to the Health classes.  I introduced  each hour.  Three out of the four people who presented had not done that before so we have more people with experience.  Thank you Kevin F., Kelly Y, Jeff B., and Joselyn B. for your willingness and sincerity when sharing with these young people.  There was a literature table set up in the classroom with a full pamphlet rack.  Each of the students was handed a meeting schedule individually.  We think we handed out 125 to 150 schedules.  Ozark Area has been asked to do both a P.I. Workshop and a Phoneline Workshop at the Southwest Missouri Area's Pig Roast on May 10, 2003.  This month's P.I. meeting was spent discussing this.  Sandee A. and  possibly Linda Q. will be doing the P.I. and I and someone else will be doing the Phoneline.  We would appreciate your attendance and help at these workshops.  Respectfully submitted,  Pam M.

Discussion:  Is patching process working?  Don’t know.

Note: Danny H. reports that Aurora Library said thanks for the books.

At the last subcommittee meeting we finalized speaker selection; discussed band vs. D.J.; and received 2 workshop proposals from groups, Walk the Walk - WDR, One Disease – One Program – Miracles.  Announce – Flyers on table, need for workshops, raffle items.  Still need 2 more workshop themes.

Need to sell off the long-sleeve t-shirts so we can move along with tank-tops.

Need raffle items.  Things are good.  Next meeting the Saturday before ASC at WDR, 3:30pm.

ILS, Doug B.

Group Reports:

Against All Odds

Hi, Verna, Recovering Addict.  Our previous GSR resigned unexpectedly and I was selected by our group as GSR.  I did not receive a report from our previous GSR.  Our group is still here, having 3 meetings a week – Sun 6:30 & TW 8:00.  We have a donation for Area of $25.00.  Thanks.  May we please have a cop of all or some minutes?  Thanks.

But Do It

But Do It meets every Wed. @ 6:30pm in the basement of Building #2 in the Oak Meadows Apartments on 15th St. in Joplin.  Attendance remains good, but we can always use more.  I want to publicly apologize to my group for missing last month’s Area meeting and leaving But Do It un-represented.  I am sorry.  We have a donation to area of $20.00.

Thank You, ILS, Mike S.

HIWAY

I’m Cara and I’m an addict.  How it Works & Why meets at 427 N. Cedar in the basement.  We still meet 4 times a week at the same times.  Our attendance is averaging 4-8 addicts.  We are having a Unity Bash May 31st with the other Nevada NA groups.  Our contributions for the last month was only $31.50 and our rent is $50, so we do not have a donation for Area this month.  Our group and Set Free will be merging into one NA Group, we are currently in the process of working out all the details.  The NA unity in Nevada is growing.

In Loving Service, Cara D.

Inner Freedom

Hello Ozark Area,

Inner Freedom meets on Sunday at 6:30pm.  We meet at 20th & Porter.  Meetings are open & non-smoking.  We could use support.  Please stop in for a meeting.  Our group’s treasurer has misplaced all of our funds and our log book.  We are working at rebuilding our group’s funds and getting everything back in order.

ILS,  Christina

Discussion: Is there anything that Ozark Area can do?  Inner Freedom just needs support.  Is the money safe now?  Yes.

Miracles

Hello Ozark Area,

Miracles Group meets on Fridays at 6:30 p.m., located at the First United Methodist Church, 501 West 4th , Joplin, MO, Room #106. Are meeting attendance is steady with 15-25 addicts per meeting. We do not have a donation this month, we bought key tags, other supplies and paid rent.

                                                I.L.S., David B.

Set Free Group

Hello Ozark Area,

I’m Ed.  I am an addict and the GSR for the Set Free Group of Nevada.  We are still meeting at 427 North Cedar, but in the basement now.  We have been having very low attendance at our meetings.  I’m pleased to announce that we will be merging with the How It Works and Why Group in order to better carry the message of recovery.  We will be electing new trusted servants and working out meeting times.

We will be having a Unity bash at Marmaduke Park in Nevada on May 31st

Our group is donating $10.00 to the Ozark Area.

ILS, Ed R

Never Alone Group

Good Afternoon Area                                                               04-27-03

The Never Alone Group in Monett is located at 405 7th St.  We hold our meeting in the basement of the St. Lawrence Church on Tuesday at 8:00pm.  Our meetings are closed and non-smoking.  Our attendance is down to 10 to 12 addicts per meeting.  Our business meetings are the first Tuesday of each month, directly after our regular meeting.  The last Tuesday of each month is our birthday meeting, that meeting is open.  For all intents and purposes we seem to be doing OK.

Respectfully, Never Alone G.S.R. - Danny H

We Do Recover

Hello Area,

We Do Recover meets at 1330 Wall.  Our meeting schedule has stayed the same.  We are still getting a lot of newcomers from treatment centers and recovery houses.  Our attendance is 50-70 addicts.  We would like to thank everyone for supporting our birthday celebration and we have an Area donation of $286.38.

In Loving Service,  Renita G.

Survivors Group (Absent Alan F. read report)

Hello Area,

Survivors is going well.  We have newcomers arriving steadily, members returning from relapse and addicts maintaining recovery.  Alan is carrying the group’s conscience to Area in my absence today.  We appreciate his service.  I will see you next month.
